Rotterdam’s municipal government is looking to extend the city’s low emissions zone. The most highly polluting vehicles will soon no longer be able to enter a large part of Rotterdam.
The aim is to considerably reduce soot emissions in the space of four years. That is why the growth of electric freight has a part to play in managing these ambitious plans.
The final plan will be presented to the municipal council during the course of 2015. The decision on this plan may have far-reaching effects for a city with as many vehicles as Rotterdam. One of the options involves extending the Rotterdam low emissions zone over the entire part of the city to the north of the river Meuse up to the ring road and would apply to heavy goods vehicles, delivery vans and private cars. Discussions are currently underway with businesses, residents, environmental organizations and trade associations to look at how big the low emissions zone should be and which types of vehicle and EU categories should be included.
