EMEL – Lisbon Mobility and Parking Municipal Company – added five new Renault Kangoo Van ZE electric vans to its fleet, to be allocated to infrastructure maintenance operations and money collection activities.
The vans are part of the EMEL strategy to cut carbon emissions, save money and cut fossil fuel use in line with the Lisbon City Council plans to get more EVs on the road.
The keys were handed over to Antonio Júlio de Almeida, Chairman of the Board of Directors of EMEL by Xavier Martinet, Chief Executive of Renault Portugal. The ceremony took place at the EMEL Mercado do Chão do Loureiro Car Park, in Lisbon.
The introduction of the first light commercial electric vehicles in its fleet arose following the participation in FREVUE (Freight Electric Vehicles in Urban Europe) project, co-funded by the EU Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) that will demonstrate to industry, consumers and policy makers, the use of electric vehicles in urban logistics. The project involves the participation of eight European cities: London, Lisbon, Oslo, Madrid, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Stockholm and Milan.
“We have formed this consortium of eight European cities because Lisbon has the strategy of being a smart city and investing in electric mobility” Antonio Júlio de Almeida, Chairman of the Board of Directors of EMEL
