SEUR is the national leader in the express transport and delivery sector in Spain while TNT is one of the world’s largest express delivery company which has 64 operative centres in Spain. Both companies have experience with the experimentation of innovative and sustainable logistics solutions. SEUR has introduced several alternative vehicles in its fleet over the past years (LPG, CNG, electric and bicycles). TNT has electric vehicles in different cities in the world and tested tricycles in the two major Spanish cities: Madrid and Bacelona. Both companies aim at deploying electric vehicles, from its own consolidation centre in the case of SEUR and from Madrid consolidation centre in the case of TNT.

Logistics operation

Both SEUR and TNT initially procured the same model of vehicle: Renault Kangoo, one each. SEUR also recently add one Nissan e-NV200. Together with the city of Madrid and Calidad Pascual, TNT uses the consolidation centre located near the city-centre and the Low Emission Zone. An old market place, owned by the municipality, and unused for several years has been selected and turned into a consolidation centre. Charging points have been installed within this CC to make the operation of electric vehicles possible. In parallel, SEUR uses its own CC and has also installed a charging station at its own depot. Both companies use their electric vehicles similarly. The Renault Kangoo vehicles are used on relatively short routes (between 50 and 100 km) for delivery of small parcels for companies and households.

Integration of ICT solutions

The FREVUE partner ITENE is coordinating the data gathering in the Madrid demonstrator. Data loggers have been installed to the electric freight vehicles, enabling the collection of information on the use of the vehicles, their routes, battery use, charging processes, etc.
