Correios de Portugal, S.A. (CTT) is the national postal service of Portugal, distributing more than six million postal items daily. As part of the FREVUE project, CTT monitors and evaluates the introduction and operation of a total of 17 electric freight vehicles into their fleet, delivering and collecting mail across a number of predefined routes.
CTT decided to introduce five Renault Kangoo ZE and five other Renault Kangoo ZE Maxis in its fleet as in March 2014. For practical reasons, temporary charging facilities were installed in the postal distribution centres and will be later replaced by faster charging equipment. Based on the positive experience with the first set of vehicles, CTT decided to procure another seven EFVs, this time Nissan eNV200s.
From the CTT distribution centres, the electric vehicles operate in the city centre of Lisbon, following certain routes that have been identified as being particularly suitable for electric freight operations.
